A lot is different this year. Even the current Pfeffer ranking for the PR agency sector. Together with the Society of Leading PR and Communications Agencies e.V. (GPRA), Gerhard Pfeffer, founder and publisher of the PR Journal, has this year asked the participating agencies to have their figures certified by a tax advisor or auditor. This has made the PR agency ranking more valid, although the number of participating PR agencies has dropped by 16% from 138 to 115.
Due to the coronavirus, the fee revenues of the leading PR agencies in Germany have declined by 7.2% – the first economic downturn since the financial crisis in 2009. The market volume of all 115 participating PR agencies amounts to a total of 637.3 million euros. The number of employees decreased slightly by 1.4%.
“We will also have our figures audited next year and thus support the validity of the ranking,” says Peter Verclas, managing director of Nicarus – Agency for Digital Content. In the ranking, the PR agency was still listed under Donner & Doria Public Relations GmbH. This year, the Heidelberg-based agency is only listed in the additional ranking together with 31 other agencies.
Nicarus performed very well in a difficult market environment. The PR agency generated a turnover of around 1 million euros. Since Nicarus now operates independently on the market, the agency did not report the consolidated figures of the Donner & Doria agency group for the first time.
Nicarus is thus still number three among the top PR agencies in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. In the consolidated main and additional PR agency rankings, Nicarus is in 95th place and is thus once again among the top 100 agencies in Germany.
